Careena Give Advice on How to Love Your Curls!

Hello, my name is Careena and I’m 5 years old and in Pre-K. My current favorite books are The Adventures of Bearwolf by D.C.R. James as well as Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History by Vashti Harrison. My favorite movie is Alvin and the Chipmunks. These days I’m really loving the Crew Remix Song by L.O.L. Surprise. I am the biggest girly girl with my style. I love dressing cute, colorful, and fun. I am most confident and feel the prettiest in a dress. I am very festive for every holiday and always have at least 2-3 themed outfits for each one. I love wearing pretty earrings, hair bows, necklaces, and bracelets.

My hair is definitely a mixture of 4A and 4B. In my family, my Mommy, brothers, and Aunties all have different types of curls also. None of their hair has identical textures. My curls are extremely high maintenance and it’s very important to care for them properly otherwise we’ll be dealing with really bad knots that can lead to devastating breakage.

These are my best tips:

• Always moisten your hair with water and evenly distribute a small amount of detangling cream or leave-in conditioner before detangling.

• Do not go longer than 2-3 days without fully detangling.

• Section hair into 4 parts and always comb starting from the bottom going up until all tangles are gone.

• Stay away from aerosol can spray products and other hair sprays that cause hair to stiffen. (They will dry your hair really bad, which leads to breakage.)

• Stay away from flatirons, blow-dryers, and other heating tools.

• Don’t forget to trim your ends maybe 2 times a year.
