Chloe Ali Suggests Keeping Hair Moisturized and Sleeping with a Satin Hair Wrap

In this week’s feature, we have 8 year old social media influencer, Chloe Ali as our Curlee Girlee of the Week! Although she is just 8 years old, her mother has shared so many wonderful things about her. Below, you will find her mother’s answers to the set of questions we provided to give insight into what Chloe Ali loves to do in her free time as well as what she is interested in, how Chloe Ali’s mother manages her daughter’s curly hair, and some curly hair management tips Chloe Ali’s mom recommends. These tips can be passed on to other curly haired boys and girls, as well as their parents who take care of their hair, around the world that struggle with their beautiful head of curls and seek guidance on how to better manage them.

1) Introduce yourself!  What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? Favorite activity? Favorite thing to do in her free time?

My name is Chloe. I’m 8 years old, soon turning 9 years old in June, and I’m in the 3rd grade. My favorite book right now is A Knight Divided. It’s about a girl and her brother going into another dimension… My favorite movie is Descendants 3. My favorite characters are Mal, Carlos, and Evie. I love their fashion and how they sing and dance too. My favorite quote is ‘period poo’ lol… It makes me laugh so I say it after everything… My favorite song is Where have you been? by Rihanna… My favorite subject is Art… I love learning about different textures, different color combinations, and free drawing during class. My favorite activity is making TikToks. I love learning new TikTok dances and songs… In my free time I like to play with my three brothers outside. We play tag and basketball.

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here

My curl type is a mixture of 4a and 4b.

3. Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

My father has straight hair but some family on his side have 2A curls. My mother has 4c curls, one of my brothers has 2c curls and my other two brothers have 4b curls.

4)  How do you like to wear your hair?

I like to wear my hair all out with a cute headband or in a cute bun.

5) How would you define your style?  (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

I think I’m a dress up kind of girl. I love wearing pretty dresses and dressy shoes. I don’t get to dress up for school because we wear uniforms so when I get a chance to, I dress up. Usually on picture day or for holidays like Easter. My favorite season to dress up for is summer because I love dresses and cute bathing suits.

6) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair? Best advice for kids with curly hair?

My hair care tips are to sleep with a satin hair wrap or cap and to keep your hair moisturized. My mom uses coconut or castor oil in my hair and twists it after every wash. It keeps my hair from getting frizzy and makes my curls bouncy and shiny.

7) What do you wash and condition your hair with? How often?

I wash and condition my hair weekly with Shea Moisture Jamaican Castor Oil shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner.

8) How often do you wash your hair and why?

I wash it weekly because it gets rid of the oil build up from the castor oil.

9) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?

I usually wash it in the afternoon so I can deep condition it longer before I have to wash it out.

10) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning? Any tips for making the style last overnight?

My mom twists my hair in the evening and puts on my satin cap so my hair isn’t frizzy by morning. My mom does a twist out in the morning and usually puts on a cute headband on me.

11) Has curly hair impacted your child and her self-image, please provide details on her “hair journey”.  Did she always love her hair or was it something that happened over time?

Chloe didn’t always embrace her curls. She used to always want her hair straightened to look like other girls in her class. We tried it a couple of times, but on her own, she decided that her natural curls are what made her special and unique. She missed her bouncy curls and decided she no longer wanted to look like “everyone else”.

12) have you read our Curlee Girlee book series? If not get your copy by clicking here. Our Curlee Girlee books were written to ensure that all curly girls belong to our Curlee Girlee family and learn to love and embrace their curls understanding that their hair is part of a greater legacy they share with those who came before them and will one day share with those who come after.

Will definitely look at the books!!!!
