Curly Hair Top Knot Hairstyles are Malaysia’s Favorite Style to Wear!

In this week’s Curl Type of the Week feature, we interviewed a young and beautiful 4  year old girl with bouncy hair, named Malaysia! Here are Malaysia’s mother’s responses to some of our questions concerning her daughter’s lifestyle, curly hair, and helpful tips on how to manage curly hair based on her own experience, that can then be passed on for other curly haired boys and girls to apply to their own hair:

1) Introduce yourself! What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? What is her favorite activity? What is her favorite thing to do in her free time?

Our Curl Type of the Week is Malaysia! She is 4 years old and she is in reception school. Malaysia’s favourite book is “Gilbert the Great,” written by Jane E. Clarke. Malaysia’s mom says that her daughter’s favourite quote is “I love it.” Her favourite movie is Disney’s “Frozen 2.”  Malaysia’s favourite song is “Into the Unknown,” which is from the “Frozen 2” movie soundtrack. Her favourite subject is Math. Her favourite activity is learning and in her free time, Malaysia likes to play games on her tablet!

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here

Malaysia’s curly hair type is between  4-b/4-C.

3. Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

It turns out that Malaysia is not the only one in her family who has curly hair! Malaysia’s mom says that she also has curly hair, as well as Malaysia’s aunt and grandmother. She says that their curly hair type is 3-b.

4)  How do you like to wear your hair?

Malaysia’s mom likes to style her daughter’s har in bunches or in curly bun hairstyles.

5) How would you define your style?  (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

Malaysia is definitely a girly girl, because she loves to dress up in a fancy dress. She always likes to look fabulous from head to toe. Depending on the season and where she goes, Malaysia has all different types of looks. But her mom says that her style is mostly streetwear or super stylish.

6) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair? What do you wash and condition your hair with? How often do you wash your hair and why?

Malaysia’s mom likes to keep her daughter’s hair in twists when she is not going out. She mostly likes to put her daughter’s hair in twists for school as this helps keep it moisturized and soft for when it is time to style it.

7)  What do you wash and condition your hair with? How often?

Malaysia’s mom washes Malaysia’s hair every 4 weeks with the “As I Am Born Curly Avocado Shea Cowash.”  She washes her daughter’s hair every 2 weeks only if it is needed with the “As I Am Born Curly Cowash.” Some examples in which she would use the cowash is if something gets in her hair while she is at school or at home while playing in the sand, swimming, painting etc. Malaysia’s mom also puts leave in conditioner on Malaysia’s curly hair.

8) How often do you wash your hair and why?

Malaysia’s mom likes to wash Malaysia’s hair every 4 weeks as it gets very dry and needs to keep moisturized. Since she is always getting something in her hair, Malaysia’s mom does a cowash, so that it does not strip out all of the moisture from her hair. It usually takes Malaysia’s mom 2-3 weeks to get her daughter’s hair really moisturized, so for that reason, she does not like to fill her hair with too many products at once. Malaysia uses the “As I Am Born Curly” moisturizer and shea butter.  For the scalp, Malaysia uses the “Blue Magic” hair grease.

9) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?  If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning?

Malaysia washes her hair in the afternoon as her mom would have to twist it and moisturize the hair thoroughly again.

10) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning? Any tips for making the style last overnight?

Malaysia occasionally uses hair bonnets at night but it depends. This is because her mom says that sometimes Malaysia does not allow her mom to put it on her! She also uses satin pillow cases, which helps keep her hair neat and moisturized.

11) Has curly hair impacted your child and her self-image, please provide details on her “hair journey”.  Did she always love her hair or was it something that happened over time?

Malaysia is very confident and comfortable with herself, especially her hair and skin complexion. She has never questioned anything about her image. She has asked her mom to put her hair in certain hair styles, which her mom says isn’t long enough for.  Her mom usually tells Malaysia that her hair is not long enough for that, but once it grows longer she can have it done that way. Malaysia is just fine with this response!

Malaysia is a social media influencer and our Curl Type of the Week! On Instagram, she has a following of 2.4K+ followers! Check her out and follow her @_princess_malaysia!
