When Curlee Girlee was born she had no hair at all–but then it started to grow. And it didn’t grow down her back like a curtain–it grew out and about like a plant! That’s when Curlee decided she hated her hair. After trying everything she could think of to straighten it out–and making several big messes in the process–Curlee discovered something buried in her mommy’s closet that changed her perspective. She discovered where her crazy curls came from. Perhaps curls could be beautiful after all!

Over 100 million females in the U.S. and 1.16 billion worldwide have curly hair. I wrote this book for my little curly girl. I wanted her to love and accept her curly hair and all things about her that make her unique and special and not ever feel the need to conform to society’s ideas of beauty or a need to fit in.

My dream is that Curlee Girlee will be the start of a movement. Embarking on a series of books, with an instantly recognizable character, who along with the other characters, learn through their adventures to embrace their differences and love all the things about themselves that make them special. A movement that begins with a character that is relatable and adorable; a character that young girls will like and look up to before they can even say the word “hair or weight or freckles.” So that by the time they discover their hair (or any part of them) is different- that difference will be a source of pride and self-appreciation.

I hope you will all help me along this journey so that together we can create inner confidence one girl/curl at a time.
