Quotes About Twin Sisters: A Sister is Both Your Mirror and Your Opposite

In this week’s Curlee Girlee of the Week feature, we interviewed beautiful, curly haired twin girls, Beverly-Claire and Madeleine Schembri, who are two awesome 11 year old models, actresses, and curly hair Instagrammers! One of my favorite quotes about twin sisters is “A sister is both your mirror and your opposite”.  These 2 lovely sisters embody this beautiful quote about twin sisters and here below are their responses to our questions concerning their lifestyle, curly hair, and helpful curly hair management tips for other curly haired kids to use:

1) Introduce yourself! What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? Favorite activity? Favorite thing to do in her free time?

We are Beverly-Claire and Madeleine Schembri and we are 11 years old. We are in the 6th grade, which is definitely a BIG adjustment from elementary school. Beverly-Claire’s favorite subject in school is Science. Madeleine’s favorite subject in school is Social Studies. We both love watching anime on tv and recreating the warrior scenes. In her free time, Madeleine also loves to draw and sketch. Another thing Beverly-Claire loves to do in her free time is singing songs from movie soundtracks.

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here.

Madeleine’s curly hair type is between 3C and Beverly-Claire’s curl type is 4A.

3. Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

Curly hair does run in our family! Our mom has 4B curly hair and our dad has 2A hair.

4)  How do you like to wear your hair?

Beverly-Claire loves to wear her hair in a neat bun in the back or in a top bun. Madeleine loves to either wear her hair loose or in a single braid down the back.

5) How would you define your style? (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

Our dress up styles are very different from each other, but you might not even know that from our modeling pics! Beverly-Claire defines her fashion style as very chic and glam while Madeleine’s fashion style is definitely more towards the rough and tumble nature type.

5) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair? Best advice for kids with curly hair?

Well, we are both still learning how to handle our curly hair but one of the things we have noticed is that it is soooo much easier to comb out our tangles in the shower when our hair is at its wettest. We also like to use grape seed oil for our curly hair because it is light and it does not weigh our hair down, all while still giving it such a soft feel and a great shine.

6) What do you wash and condition your hair with?

Oh wow! We have used different hair products for our curly hair but over the years, our mom likes for us to use shampoos that are especially made for curly, natural hair, such as Texture My Way, Shea Moisture and Miss Jessie’s.

7) How often do you wash your hair and why?

We do not have a set schedule to wash our hair, but our curly hair may get washed anywhere from one to three times a week. We wash it more in the summer when we go swimming in the pool, so that we can remove the chlorine from hair. Overall, we wash both our hairs whenever with no set schedule.

8) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?

We do not have a set schedule to wash our hair. A lot of the time, the time in which we both wash our hair is based on whether we need to have a certain look for our pics.

9) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning? Any tips for making the style last overnight?

We usually do not do our hair at night so we just make sure we have a ponytail and away to sleep we go!!

10) Has curly hair impacted your child and her self-image, please provide details on her “hair journey.” Did she always love her hair or was it something that happened over time?

Being biracial, our mom took a lot of time to educate both of us about why our hair is the way it is. We have four people in our family and we have 4 different hair textures!! Every now and then, the both of us wear our hair straight, as a change up, but we definitely would not trade our curly hair for anything.  We always get so many compliments on how beautiful our natural, curly hair is and we really love it.

11) Have you read our Curlee Girlee book series?  If not, get your copy by clicking here. Our Curlee Girlee books were written to ensure that all curly girls belong to our Curlee Girlee family and learn to love and embrace their curls understanding that their hair is part of a greater legacy they share with those who came before them and will one day share with those who come after.

The both of us really love and support the curly hair movement!! We definitely will have to check out your book series! We were bullied when we were younger, but we did not think it was because of our curly hair. Now, girls at school are always wanting to play in our hair.  We don’t always let them but it is nice that they love the curls!

Beverly-Claire and Madeleine are curly hair Instagrammers and influencers and our Curlee Girlees of the Week! Check out the twins over at their Instagram @schembritwins!
