Taming the Mane

With curly hair comes the ability for your hair to be … well, a little unpredictable. Here at Curlee Girlee, we love a mane with a mind of its own, but we understand that sometimes you need your hair to behave! In order to help your hair care routine, we’ve done a little digging to find the very best techniques to cure your and your curlee girlee’s bad hair day blues and taming the mane!

First things first: no matter what type of hair you have, hydration is key.

If you start this with your little curlee girlee from a young age, her hair will naturally grow at a healthier, happier rate. Hydrating your hair starts with a good shampoo–those two-in-one deals may seem handy, but they rarely do the trick! Instead, find a shampoo and conditioner set that will save you trouble further down the road! Some of our favorites are Ouidad and Ogx — both exceptional products that will love your curls! Make sure you stock up on a good line of hair care, and teach your curlee girlee the importance of taking care of her curl power!

Once you’ve got that beautiful moisture into your now hydrated hair, you don’t want to accidentally twist it out!

The moments directly after a shower are crucial for curly success. Avoid taking all the love out of your hair with a twisty towel on your head — instead, wrap your hair with a t-shirt for a gentler dry. If you are applying another product to your hair after your shower (we go crazy for anything with shea butter!), make sure you take the time to thoroughly coat each strand of hair with love, instead of just hitting patches of hair. Spread the joy!

So, now your hair is hydrated, but what do you do with it?

An important skill to learn as a curlee girlee is the power of a go-to hairdo. This doesn’t have be elaborate, simply a hairdo that you feel comfortable and confident with! Styles that look ravishing on curlee girlees are simple braids and messy buns. Bohemian hair is very fashionable right now, and your curls add a chic factor to both the messy bun and the braid. Make sure you keep bobby-pins with you to tuck away flyaways–the balance here is walking the line between messy and “in style.” Use your curls to your advantage. Soon, everyone will be asking for your secrets!

In the case of a curly catastrophe…

Make sure to keep a small bottle of product, bobby-pins, and a hair-tie in your handbag. If you need to dress up your mane, use that product and voilà! Or, use those dazzling braid skills to pull your hair back. Either way, you and your hair win.

We wish you the very best in your curly endeavors!
