These Curly Twins Have 4A Curly Hair!

In this week’s Curl Type of the Week feature, we interviewed young and beautiful 7 year old fraternal twin girls with a social media influence, named Jazelle and Janelle! Here are the twin’s responses to some of our questions concerning her lifestyle, curly hair, and helpful tips on how to manage curly hair based on her own experience, that can then be passed on for other curly haired boys and girls to apply to their own hair:

1) Introduce yourself!  What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? Favorite activity? Favorite thing to do in her free time?

We are known as the Bolden Twins, Jazelle and Janelle but our family calls us both Sissys. We are fraternal twins that look like identical twins. We are 7 years old and will be going to the 2nd grade in the next school year. We have always been in the same class since Pre-K and our classmates have always gotten us confused. We really love to dance and sing all the time with each other and we really love the saying “Girl, you are beautiful” because we believe that we are all beautiful in our skin no matter what!

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here

Based on your hair curl type reference page, our curly hair type is 4A curly hair.

3) Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

Even though we are not the only ones in our family that have beautiful curly hair, it turns out that we did not get the curly hair trait from our parents! Our mom has straight hair and so does the rest of our mom’s family, although our dad’s hair isn’t curly. But our dad’s grandma has curly hair and she is the only one with curly hair on his side of the family. Thank you grandma for giving the Bolden twins their beautiful curly hair!

4)  How do you like to wear your hair?

We love to wear our hair down and curly with a side part to show off our beautiful curls.

5)  How would you define your style?  (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

In terms of our fashion style, we both love to be fancy and get dressed up every day. We would say that an everyday look for us would be a girly top with jeans and sandals as well as jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, and headbands).

6) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair? Best advice for kids with curly hair?

One important hair care tip that we recommend for other kids and their parents to use and take seriously when taking care of their curly hair is to always have your hair up for bed and brushing it out while it is wet, not dry. This is the best advice we could give because this is what we normally do to prepare our hair before we go to bed.

7) What do you wash and condition your hair with? How often?

In terms of curly hair care routine, we have used several different products but the best shampoo/conditioner that works best for our curls is Dove amplified Texture shampoo and conditioner. We wash and condition our curly hair up to 3-4 times a week.

8) How often do you wash your hair and why?

We usually wash our hair as often as 3 to 4 times a week, depending on what products we use to do our hair throughout the week.

9) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?

We are an evening hair washer because it works best for our hair. After we wash and brush our hair out, we would put our hair in a big braid before going off to bed.

10) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning? Any tips for making the style last overnight?

During the night time, we would wet our curly hair with a spray bottle and brush it out and style it with curl products to make our curly hair more bouncier. We would also use our hands to scrunch up the curls.

11) Has curly hair impacted your child and her self-image, please provide details on her “hair journey”.  Did she always love her hair or was it something that happened over time?

Jazelle and Janelle have always loved their 4A curly hair. The girls have never questioned why I as their mom have straight hair and why they have curly hair.

11) Have you read our Curlee Girlee book series? If not get your copy by clicking here. Our Curlee Girlee books were written to ensure that all curly girls belong to our Curlee Girlee family and learn to love and embrace their curls understanding that their hair is part of a greater legacy they share with those who came before them and will one day share with those who come after.

Yes, we have a copy of the Curlee Girlee book series and love it!
