This Curlee Girlee Recommends the LCO Method for Soft Curls!

In this week’s Curl Girlee of the Week feature, we interviewed lovely and adorable, 1-year-old springy-haired Instagram influencer, Anaiyah. Here are her mother’s responses to some of our questions concerning Anaiyah’s lifestyle, curly hair, and helpful curly tips, such as using the LCO method, to manage curly hair based on her own experience, that can then be passed on for other curly haired boys and girls to apply to their own hair:

1) Introduce yourself! What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? What is her favorite activity? What is her favorite thing to do in her free time?

Curlee Girlee of the Week is Miss Anaiyah! She is a one year old social media influencer, whose favorite show to watch on television is children’s tv show Cocomelon. Anaiyah’s mom says that one of her daughter’s favorite things to do in her free time is to dress up. Another thing that she loves to do is to take pictures, especially for her Instagram! Sounds like she has a lot of fun in her free time!

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here.

Anaiyah’s mom says that her daughter’s hair curl type is a Springy 4A.

3. Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

Anaiyah’s mom says that Anaiyah is not the only one in her family with beautiful, curly hair! Turns out that Anaiyah caught the curly hair trait from both her mom and dad! Her sister also has really curly hair, but Anaiyah says that her curly hair is the best from all of her family members! We love that she is surrounded by family with curly hair, who can give her the right curly hair advice! We also believe that having immediate access to curly-haired family members can increase your child’s confidence in their own curly hair!

4)  How do you like to wear your hair?

One way that Anaiyah loves to wear her curly hair is by having her hair down with a curly fringe or in 3 bunches, which Anaiyah thinks looks so cute on her! We also think this hairstyle looks great on her!

5) How would you define your style?  (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

Anaiyah’s mom, who dresses up Anaiyah, says that Anaiyah loves wearing all different types of clothing styles. Anaiyah can be dressed up in a tracksuit one day and dressed up casual and/or dressy the next day! We are so sure that no matter what she wears, she will definitely look amazing in it!

6) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair?

One curly hair care tip that Anaiyah’s mom can recommend for helping other kids take care of their soft and beautiful curly hair is using the LCO method. If you are not familiar with it, the LCO in the LCO method stands for liquid or leave-in conditioner, cream, and oil. This method is similar to the LOC method, which is a technique that is focused on moisturizing your hair and maintaining that moisture for as long as possible. Whichever method that you choose, the point is to keep your child’s curly hair as moisturized as possible. This is so important to keep in mind while trying to manage your child’s hair, because adding moisture will make the process simple and far less time-consuming than if you did not moisturize their hair!

7) What do you wash and condition your hair with?

Anaiyah’s mom says that she uses sulfate free shampoo and conditioner on Anaiyah’s hair. She shampoos only once a week. Anaiyah’s mom then uses a moisturizer and finishes with an oil to seal in Anaiyah’s hair moisture, which she says works a treat.

8) How often do you wash your hair and why?

Anaiyah’s mom washes Anaiyah’s hair as often as more than 2 times a week. On some very rare occasions, her mom would wash her daughter’s hair as frequent as 3 times a week. Anaiyah’s mom says that she likes to wash her daughter’s hair this often so that way, Anaiyah’s curly hair can turn out to be more clean and more beautiful in the end!

9) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?

Anaiyah’s mom washes Anaiyah’s hair with shampoo once a week, which is usually done during the evening. Her mom says that using shampoo often tends to strip the oils and moisture out of curly hair. Throughout the week, Anaiyah’s mom will use a little conditioner to help bring her daughter’s beautiful curls back to life. Using conditioner is super important for revitalizing your child’s curls!

10) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning?

Anaiyah’s mom washes her daughter’s hair at night so that she can sleep on it, but she has a certain routine that she follows. As part of her curly hair care routine in the evening, Anaiyah’s mom gives her daughter a bath before going to bed. In the morning after Anaiyah wakes up, Anaiyah’s mom refreshes her daughter’s beautiful curls with a spray bottle.
