Two Year Old Gabrielle has 4A-4B Hair!

In this week’s feature, we have 2 year old social media influencer, Gabrielle as our Curlee Girlee of the Week! Although she is just 2 years old, her mother has shared so many wonderful things about her. Below, you will find her mother’s answers to the set of questions we provided to give insight into what Gabrielle loves to do in her free time as well as what she is interested in, how Gabrielle’s mother manages her daughter’s curly hair, and some curly hair management tips Gabrielle’s mom recommends. These tips can be passed on to other curly haired boys and girls, as well as their parents who take care of their hair, around the world that struggle with their beautiful head of curls and seek guidance on how to better manage them:

1) Introduce yourself!  What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? Favorite activity? Favorite thing to do in her free time?

Gabrielle is a 2 year old mini-influencer and she is the owner of Gabrielle Bowtique & Things. She enjoys playing outside with her brothers and loves to play dramatic play at school. She currently attends a learning center but will be attending pre-k in the Fall. Her favorite songs to sing are Johnny Johnny, Yes Papa and The Five Little Monkeys.

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here

Gabrielle’s mom believes that Gabrielle has 4A-4B hair, a combination between the two curl types.

3) Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

Gabrielle’s mom says that her daughter gets her beautiful curly hair from her mother’s side of the family. Turns out both Gabrielle’s maternal grandmother and maternal great grandfather have curly hair!

4) How do you like to wear your hair?

Gabrielle’s mom says that she prefers that her daughter’s hair is to be braided with either beads or bows.

5) How would you define your style?  (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

Gabrielle’s mom says that her daughter really enjoys dressing up and loves to wear casual style clothing. During school days, she usually dresses up casually due to outplay. Gabrielle’s mom says that Gabrielle’s favorite season is the summer because she loves wearing tutus and dresses!

6) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair? Best advice for kids with curly hair?

Some curly hair tips Gabrielle’s mom recommends for curly haired kids is to keep your hair moisturized, make sure you are eating healthy, oil your scalp and drink lots of water. Another tip she recommends is having a good hair regimen and using products that work well with your curly hair type. Finally, she says that you should leave the hair alone, do not pull and tug at your hair since curly hair is very fragile. This is why she recommends handling your child’s curly hair with care.

7) What do you wash and condition your hair with? How often?

On wash days, which she says is every other Sunday, Gabrielle’s mom uses Ase Hair Care products to wash her daughter’s hair. She says that they are gentle on Gabrielle’s hair and leaves her scalp clean. On non wash weeks, Gabrielle’s mom cowashes her hair with their deep conditioner.

8) How often do you wash your hair and why?

Gabrielle’s mom washes her daughter’s hair every other Sunday in order to prevent her daughter’s curls from getting dry and brittle.

9) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?

Gabrielle’s mom prefers to wash Gabrielle’s hair more during the night because it goes well with their night time routine. She says another reason why she is an evening washer is because the process of washing, conditioning, detangling and styling can take some time.

10) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning? Any tips for making the style last overnight?

One tip that Gabrielle’s mom recommends for making the hairstyle last overnight is to braid your child’s curly hair before going to bed. After washing her hair, Gabrielle’s mom parts Gabrielle’s hair into 4 sections and braids it. In the morning, she refreshes the braids and may add some hair accessories such as beads, bows or barrettes.

11) Has curly hair impacted your child and her self-image, please provide details on her “hair journey”.  Did she always love her hair or was it something that happened over time?

Due to her young age, Gabrielle’s mom does not think Gabrielle understands the impact of her curly hair yet. However, her mom makes it a point to tell Gabrielle how beautiful her hair is and how beautiful she is as a person.
