Young Ladison has 3C Curly Hair

In this week’s feature, we have 1 year old social media influencer, Ladison as our Curlee Girlee of the Week! Although she is just 1 years old, her mother has shared so many wonderful things about her. Below, you will find her mother’s answers to the set of questions we provided to give insight into what Ladison loves to do in her free time as well as what she is interested in, how Ladison’s mother manages her daughter’s curly 3c hair, and some curly hair management tips Ladison’s mom recommends. These tips can be passed on to other curly haired boys and girls, as well as their parents who take care of their hair, around the world that struggle with their beautiful head of curls and seek guidance on how to better manage them.

1) Introduce yourself! What is your age, grade, favorite books, movies, favorite quote, song? What is her favorite school subject? Favorite activity? Favorite thing to do in her free time?

Ladison will be a year and a half on April 12th! 🙂 Ladison loves, LOVES to read! She has so many favorite books! Some of her favorite books are “The Pigeon Needs a Bath,” “A is for Activist,” “Woke Baby,” and “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.” Ladison loves to mimic her parents reading right after they read a story to her. She also loves to dance. She will dance anywhere! She recently learned most of the dance steps to the “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” nursery rhymes. Ladison loves learning new things! She is an explorer! She currently knows how to count to 8 and says some of her ABC’s. She can say roughly 35 words! She knows how to identify some foods and some animals.

2) Your curls! What is your hair curl type? If you don’t know, please check out our reference page here.

Ladison’s curly hair type is 3C hair (Coily).

3. Who else in your family has curly hair? Check out our family tree here which is a fun and educational way to trace the legacy of your hair!

Ladison is not the only one in her family with curly hair! Ladison gets her curly hair from her Mom’s side of the family. Ladison has very similar 3C hair to her mom and aunt.

4)  How do you like to wear your hair?

I like styling Ladison’s hair in versatile styles. A quick and easy style is in two pigtails or buns. However, when I want her curls to let loose, I love styling her hair in a half up, half down with a curly bang. I most of the time add hair accessories to Ladison’s hair such as bows, headbands and ball twisties.

5) How would you define your style? (ie, are you a dress up girl, more casual, love to be fancy etc.  What is your favorite style for school, for dressing up, for each season, etc.

Ladison loves getting dressed! She loves shoes- ALL kinds of shoes. She even tries to put on her mom and dad shoes at times. Ladison’s style is definitely versatile. You can catch her in a sweatsuit and sneakers one day, and then a dress, leg warmers and booties the next day. Whichever style she’s showcasing that day- her hair is always on point!

6) Hair care tips!  What are some hair care tips you can share for taking care of your curly hair? Best advice for kids with curly hair?

Moisturizing is key! I use “Just For Me” products in Ladison’s Hair. After a wash, I put the “Just For Me” leave in conditioner, along with the “Just For Me” moisturizing milk lotion. I then rub my fingers and a comb through her hair to enhance her curls.

7) How often do you wash your hair and why?

I like to wash Ladison’s hair with Johnson’s baby shampoo and conditioner. I wash her hair roughly once a week.

8) How often do you wash your hair and why?

I wash Ladison’s hair 1x a week. Washing your hair less frequently a week helps your hair to produce natural hair oils and helps keep your hair moisturized.

9) Are you a morning hair washer or an evening washer, why?

Evening hair washer. I just think it’s more convenient since Ladison and I get to relax afterwards. I do not feel rushed when I wash her hair in the evenings. I can take my time while moisturizing and styling her hair afterwards.

10) If you do your hair at night and sleep on it, what do you do in the morning? Any tips for making the style last overnight?

I have a water spray bottle for Ladison’s hair. I spray her hair with water the next day, while reapplying the “Just For Me” moisturizing lotion.3c hair

11) Has curly hair impacted your child and her self-image, please provide details on her “hair journey”.  Did she always love her hair or was it something that happened over time?

Ladison is still young to tell. However, I’m sure she will take pride in her curly hair and love her unique hair and curls!

12) Have you read our Curlee Girlee book series?  If not, get your copy by clicking here. Our Curlee Girlee books were written to ensure that all curly girls belong to our Curlee Girlee family and learn to love and embrace their curls understanding that their hair is part of a greater legacy they share with those who came before them and will one day share with those who come after.
